InScribeX.com is the home of InScribeX Web, innovative software for working with Ancient Egyptian on the Internet.

Development is in progress during 2010.

Windows and most Mac users can use the current technical preview - Preview 3. This works with Silverlight version 3 or 4.

Most Linux users should use the previous technical preview for the time being - Preview 2. This requires Moonlight 2 installed as a Firefox plugin.

Features include:

• Standards based approach using Unicode 5.2 Egyptian Hieroglyphs (www.unicode.org) with EGPZ 1.0 naming conventions (www.egpz.com).
• Integrated Unicode 5.2 version of the InScribe hieroglyphic font.
• Support for Manuel de Codage (MdC) dialects for Egyptian texts.
• Built-in English-Egyptian and Egyptian-English dictionaries. Possibly the largest in existence and growing.
• Unicode 5.2 Egyptian Hieroglyphs sign list.
• Interoperability features for  InScribe 2004, InScribe 2004SE,and InScribe 3 professional Egyptian Word Processing desktop software.
• Install-free software using Microsoft Silverlight (Windows, Mac) browser plug-in and Novell Moonlight (Linux Firefox plug-in).

Notes

The current technology preview is aimed at members of the InScribe Beta program. Other visitors are welcome to try the software with the understanding that availability of tutorials, help and references is some way down the line and users are expected to be familiar with InScribe and Egyptological conventions.

Windows and Mac users will be prompted  to install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in if not already present. SL3 and SL4 support Preview 3. Unfortunately, SIlverlight is not available for  non-Intel Mac systems.

Linux users can use the April pre-release of  the Moonlight 3 plug-in to run Preview 3 in Firefox or Chrome browsers. See the Novell go-mono.com/moonlight-preview/ site for latest status. The main limitation is only small parts of the dictionaries are shown (performance bug in Moonlight 3 preview 6).
