InScribeX.com is the home of InScribeX Web, innovative software for working with Ancient Egyptian on the Internet.

Development is in progress during 2009. The current technical preview is available here.

Features include:

• Standards based approach using Unicode 5.2 Egyptian Hieroglyphs (www.unicode.org) with EGPZ 1.0 naming conventions (www.egpz.com).
• Integrated Unicode 5.2 version of the InScribe hieroglyphic font.
• Support for Manuel de Codage (MdC) dialects for Egyptian texts.
• Built-in English-Egyptian and Egyptian-English dictionaries.
• Interoperability features for  InScribe 2004, InScribe 2004SE,and InScribe 3 professional Egyptian Word Processing desktop software.
• Install-free software using Microsoft Silverlight (Windows, Mac) browser plug-in and Novell Moonlight (Linux Firefox plug-in).

Note the current technical preview is aimed at members of the InScribe Beta program. Other visitors are welcome to try the software with the understanding that availability of tutorials, help and references is some way down the line and users are expected to be familiar with InScribe and Egyptological conventions.

Windows and Mac users will be prompted  to install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in if not already present. Unfortunately, SIlverlight is not available for  non-Intel Mac systems.

Linux users will need  Beta version or later of Moonlight 2.0 plug-in for Firefox. This is expected from Novell  'early summer'. See go-mono.com/moonlight-preview/ for latest status. At time of writing (June 15th) the latest pre-beta (version 1.9.3) is not yet ready to run most Silverlight applications including InScribeX Web.
